Diwali

Diwali began with Mrs Dijkstra reading us a story and then Mrs Nagpal called us up to add coloured rice to the Rangoli design sketched on the table. When finished it looked amazing with the Diva light resting in the middle.
Meanwhile Miss Uden worked with groups of children using DAS modelling clay to make a Diva lamp. They are drying and we will paint them tomorrow.
We also coloured Rangoli patterns and mounted them on contrasting coloured card.
It was a special and different day and we really appreciated Mrs Nagpal visiting our room to help us experience Diwali.

Tinker Time Cubetto

Here is James, Max and Mr Armstrong at the beginning of the week trialing our new Tinker Time activity: Cubetto - a little wooden robot who loves to explore and play. This time round the boys experimented and then began programming - giving the robot instructions to follow using the World Map or Space Map, the Interface Board ( control panel), the 16 blocks (commands). Cubetto had fun adventures!

Introducing Hour Of Code

The week before last Mr Armstrong worked with Room 24 introducing them to the website
"Hour of Code" which has an i pad app version. Mrs Dijkstra hopes to use this program as a component of Tinker-time. It requires the children to problem solve and write instructions. We began with a Minecraft theme and later on children can opt for Moana or Star Wars version. This learning builds upon the coding we do with the Osmo Kits and will prepare the class for working with "Scratch" as they progress through the school. James was on hand if  Mr Armstrong had any queries.

Making Shapes

As part of our Maths we were given two squares. We folded them in half and then halved the half to make quarters. We ended up with four triangles and four squares. We followed the instructions to use these to make different  shapes. Here James has made a large square.

Enviro Week Part 2

                                                             Caleb, Ayyan, Drake
                                                                Aayush, James, Max
We used paint splatter to cover our letter.
As part of Enviro week we each made a Pom Pom with the help of Mrs McGowan. This will eventually decorate a tree on Tree Island, as we are YARN BOMBING.

Each class was given a letter to paint, we covered ours with Paint Splatter. We thought it looked cool!
It will eventually go on a fence and spell out a school wide message. Watch this space over the next few weeks!

An old pair of slippers to chew

Alexandra enlisting the help of James for her detailed design

Drake figured out how to put sides on his slippers
                                                                  Aston or Rylee?
                                                               Aayush - job done
                                                          Sonia with her stylish slippers

Mrs Dijkstra read us a story about Arthur an ordinary dog who wanted a home and pair of old slippers to chew. We designed our own pair of slippers using a piece of newsprint and a glue stick. Mrs Dijkstra thinks they were too good to chew!
