During Arts week room 24 looked at Eric Carle as an author and illustrator. We read many of his books and visited his website to view his painting techniques. We then used a variety of objects to paint with to create interesting and textured effects. Next we used the paper to design a sun and something special that will be displayed in the hall next week.
Welcome to Room 24's blog for 2017. We are a Year 2 class and our teacher is Mrs Dijkstra. We are looking forward to working together and learning lots of exciting and new things this year! Check our blog regularly to see what we have been up to. We would love to read your comments.

We talked about Crabs, Enviro Week, Antonyms like happy and sad, Anzac Day, A Cat called Kite big book, a tongue twister, sound effects using the circuits and our Visit to the Buddhist temple. Every-one was amazing!!!
A big thanks to Jessica's Nana for helping us out with the face painting!

Introducing Hour Of Code
The week before last Mr Armstrong worked with Room 24 introducing them to the website
"Hour of Code" which has an i pad app version. Mrs Dijkstra hopes to use this program as a component of Tinker-time. It requires the children to problem solve and write instructions. We began with a Minecraft theme and later on children can opt for Moana or Star Wars version. This learning builds upon the coding we do with the Osmo Kits and will prepare the class for working with "Scratch" as they progress through the school. James was on hand if Mr Armstrong had any queries.

Tinkertime
Many children in Room 24 have learned to use the circuits to make different sound effects, like an ambulance, a fire engine, a machine gun and a vibration. It was fun but it gave Mrs Dijkstra a big headache.
Making Shapes
As part of our Maths we were given two squares. We folded them in half and then halved the half to make quarters. We ended up with four triangles and four squares. We followed the instructions to use these to make different shapes. Here James has made a large square.
